Caring for the land around us and the wider environment has always been a priority for us, and it’s no different in the 21st century.

Where once we harnessed the wind to grind our flour, now we use the power of the sun. Our first photovoltaic panels were installed in 2013, and last year we replaced them with more efficient models, and increased the number by 50%.

2019 was also the year we were 0% to landfill, recycling 95% of the waste, and using the remaining 5% for energy recovery.

MILLERS TOOLS We’ve milled flour using French Bur

MILLERS TOOLS

We’ve milled flour using French Burr stones for over two centuries now, and to keep them working effectively we use specialist tools to dress them.

Part of this work involves cutting grooves in the face of the millstone. These are called furrows because they resemble the furrows farmers cut into fields and perform a similar guiding role, directing the grain as it’s ground.
