We had a great time at the 10th Essex Kid's Food and Farming day, Writtle College and the Kids Country UK, Food and Farming Day, at East of England Showground. We educated children on the wheat to flour story and took along our handmill - children loved having a go at making their own flour from our local wheat!
The Essex Schools Food and Farming Day is a yearly event organised by the Essex Agricultural Society giving 3,000 Essex school children aged 8 to 11 the opportunity to visit Writtle College and find out how their food is produced, the role played by farmers in Essex and the many related jobs within the industry. The East of England Showground hosted 5,500 children from over 50 primary schools across the Eastern region to celebrate all things associated with food and farming. There were 12 zones dedicated to educating children and teachers on all there is to know about food, farming and the countryside. Children got the chance to get stuck into a range of interactive activities across the agricultural spectrum including grinding flour (on our stand) and cooking bread rolls in the Kids Country Kitchen, using Marriage's flour!
